Ditto with the Thermoscan: we have had one since our first CAH son was born in '89. They are great, and pretty easy to use, too, even when your child is asleep. We found that sometimes they were not as accurate as a rectal thermometer (could be up to 1 degree difference either way), but usually if my CAH daughter has a bad fever, one degree does not make a difference in whether we will adjust her meds or not. I found that if the ear thermometer read 100 degrees (which is when we've been instructed to double her up), I would often "double check" with the rectal thermometer; this didn't happen very often. Now that she is 3 yrs old, it seems to be more accurate more of the time; when we contacted someone at the company, they said that it was harder to get an accurate reading on a small baby than a toddler. Also, they mentioned that the ear-thermometer is not accurate if the child has an ear infection, so it's up to you! Good luck!Wendy-Lee
