Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) is an inherited condition. It is caused by the lack of an enzyme in the adrenal glands. The production of this enzyme is controlled by a pair of genes. One from the mother and one from the father. If a person has two normal genes, he/she is unaffected. A person with one normal gene and one CAH (congential adrenal hyperplasia) gene is a carrier. Someone with two genes for CAH are affected. It is a autosomal recessive condition. Autosomal means that boys and girls can have the condition. It is one in four chance of pasting on the gene with two carriers of the gene. This is a long way of saying that CAH is not caused by stress or anything that happened during pregnancy - except that it is genetic. I think that the emotional stress or physical stress during pregnancy is not good for the baby but it will not cause CAH.
