Re: Re: Women who have had clitoral surgery?????

Hi!

My name is Julia, and I am now 19.

I had this surgery done to me when I was 2.

I never had any problems with my clitoris ever since then. They didn't mess up my nerves, or leave painful scars.

What was done to me was to "cut" it in height, and not in the base. So the base of it is still as it was before, that means, a little bigger than normal (a little more than 1 inch in size).

I don't really care about it, and doctors say the surgery was done perfectly. I know I am a little different in that, from other women, but I don't give it as much weight. I am glad that my parents had it done to me when I was little, as I am glad they waited for the vaginoplasty, so that now I can choose the moment when I will have it done (luckily I can have my period anyway...)

In taking your decision you need to take in account many objective factors, and the main ones could be:

1. As years go on technology gets better and better: at first they used to completely take off the clitoris, then they learned to reduce it in height, and then who knows....

2. As your daughter is going to grow if she finds herself bathing with others (that can happen when you are a little kid) she is going to notice the difference, and you need to give her a concrete and clear explanation.

So the decision to have the surgery done now or not is completely up to you, and there is planty of material to look at both sides (hours and hours of discussions!). But the most important thing is that whatever is your choice you don't make your daughter feel ashamed, inferior, or victim of who-knows-what-disease. She should be informed of everything that's going on as she grows and you parents are the only people who can do this with success. CAH is a serious sindrome, but nothing that will object her from living a completely normal life!

Good luck in everything you do,

Sincerely,

Julia
