Thanks for your kind thoughts Sam. We are basically saying the same thing. I agree with you 100% that we should all try to educate our medical professionals about all the possible problems with the current treatment of CAH. As I see it, it is a bit barbarick. I was speaking with a nurse that worked at Yale recently and brought up the surgery subject. Her response was stated with a laugh "but if we didn't do it they would be left with a penis". I immediately jumped all over her and explained the plight of many of the "adults" on this board right down to the sucicidal tendencies. She hung her head and walked away. This is an excellent place to focus our energies. This is where my children were born. By the grace of God my child who had CAH was a boy. I know for a fact that they are very pro surgery and most likely would not have informed me of the other choices that I had. I didn't know about this message board either so I would have been left with a one sided opinion. All I am saying here is that instead of fighting amongst ourselves, let's take it upon ourselves to educated the medical field. I am glad that this information was brought to the board AND that those who had experienced these problems also spoke freely. What I am against is the arguing back and forth about what is right and what is wrong with people who have already made the decision and can't reverse it even if they wanted to. Let's take that energy and put it toward educating the people who are doing the surgery. Let's tell them that, at the very least, they should tell the parents that there is indeed a choice. I do remember one doctor positng on the board a while back who was on board with this idea. The experience of the "adults" with CAH is priceless to us and invaluable to our children. I encourage them to post information and experiences on this board as often as they want to. And I agree that CAH is a rare disorder and not many people have ever heard of it before they were presented with it at the birth of their child. That is why I want us to stand together on this and not fight amongst ourselves. We need to agree to disagree in some areas and get on with fighting for a cure! Regarding the posting comparing a boy's large penis to a girls large clitori's and asking the question "would we cut off a boys penis just because it was large". The correct comparison would more likely be a boy with a tiny penis that looked like a clitoris. Good question, wrong example. I think that the one thing we all agree on is that the medical field is woefully inept in the areas of follow up and the emotional aspects of this disorder. Let's work to educate our doctors with our own personal experiences and make them listen to us so that they may be moved to make a change and update their thinking about CAH. I wish everyone nothing but peace and happiness.LynnT
