DotI have SWCAH son - soon to be in 4th grade at a public school. I work full time and before he started school I had him in a private daycare. The school knows about his SWCAH (as did the daycare provider) and I had his pediatrition write a "letter" regarding what to do in case of emergency...which is CALL me first...but it's good they have the details and information on hand in case there's an emergency and they can't get a hold of me...OR if he'd have to go to hospital ASAP. Of course I worry about him and probably am a little more cautious of him than I am our non CAH son and for good reason...but I don't go overboard.
My husband and I have involved him in his treatment..and discuss everything openly with him and how important it is to be aware of signs..take his medicine on time....when his medication needs to be increased....drink lots of water during the summer etc. He even knows that he gets the solu cortef shot and when...and we keep plenty of that on hand too.
