I agree with you, get a second opinion. Pediapred? Given that your daughter is in preschool, so must be 2-4 years old, then cortef should most probably be the medication prescribed. I truly question that endos knowledge of CAH, and would ask why pediapred instead of cortef was prescribed. Rarely do I hear anyone taking pediapred (usually cortef to dexamethasone, as dex is stronger). Yes, I would definitely get a 2nd opinion. There are several of us who read this board who, if only, we had gotten a "correct" 2nd opinion -- the our CAH child would still be alive today. Myself being one (3 year-old twin daughter died June 1999). As far as choosing the 2nd opinion endo, my suggestion is that you call around every endo office convenient enough to you, and ask their staff if they treat CAH and LOCAH patients, and about how many patients they treat with these. When I made those calls, most all endos offices said, "what was that again?", "how do you spell that?", "what, could you repeat that?", "yes, we have 2-3 patients with that." I also got the, "We will ask the doctor, then call you back." Not one ever called back. I figured if they had to ask me questions like that, or never returned my call, then they didn't know CAH well enough to suit me. Then I got on the internet and researched our whole state, got phone numbers for the endo depts of ped hospitals, and found a major city where the 2 children's hospitals see over 200 CAH patients. This happens to be the city I was born in and lived the first 18 years of my life, before leaving for college. I also battled with insurance, they said "we won't cover you if you move out of our area." My reply to them was about my daughter's death, and I told them about calling the different endos offices, and their replies, so asked them what about when you can't find an endo in the area? We are covered here.Anne
