Re: knowing CAH status from DNA before they're born

Yes, we knew my daughter had CAH before she was born, and yes, they drew blood right after she was born. I'm not so sure if this was to "check" if she indeed did have CAH (we KNEW she did!), but to see where her levels were, so that they could begin medication immediately. Of course, they also had to draw more blood over the next 2 days, to see if the meds were doing what they were supposed to. It's so hard to let them take blood from such a wee one, so I can understand your reluctance to ask them to do it for your baby, "just in case". In my understanding, the DNA testing IS 100% accurate, but I'm sure that they would take a blood test (which is all it takes), to check it out for you, if it would make you feel better (and I can understand your fears completely!; a contented mom is a wonderful thing!) God be with you and your baby during delivery!
