Re: To Kay and others with children on Lupron: an interesting article

Kristin started taking Lupron when she was 5.  (We initially suspected precocious puberty at 3-1/2, but the tests were inconclusive.) When she was 5 we retested and decided to start the monthly Lupron injections.  I cannot remember what her height was when we started the shots.  I think her bone age at that time was about 9 or 10.  We got very good results from the shots in terms of stopping any outward effects of puberty.  As far as bone age, we slowed the progression down dramatically.  Once or twice we had it jump forward and tests showed that we needed an increase.  I think the dose she started out on was something like 7.5mg and we just ended with 15 mg shots (which she took at that dose for the last 2-3 years.)  Besides bone age changing more rapidly than it should when we needed to increase the dose, we also noticed mood changes  that were somewhat cylical - another clue to get the dosage checked.  Overall, we got good results in the bone age advancement.  Kristin is about to turn 13 in two weeks and her bone age was 13-1/2 when it was checked last (about 6 months ago).  She is 5' tall at this point.  I would like to see her get a little taller, but chances are that she won't grow too much more.  I am only 5' tall myself and my husband is only 5'8".  There are lots of short people in the family, so I think we did good to get her to 5' tall.  I wish we could get the bone density test sooner, but they use a special piece of equipment to check children and it stays booked up, so October was the soonest date available.  When we get the results from the test I will be sure to post them so that others using L:upron will know our experience.  Thanks for the article reference.  I will read it and probably take it to our doctor.
