Re: Re: Surgical choice, question for all

In 1992 I had a son with CAH.  My daughter was born in 1989 some three years earlier.  I actually have researched into this topic thoroughly and all I can say is THANK GOD my daughter did not have CAH......I knew some women that had daughters at the same time and they were influenced by medical people to have surgery on the clitoris.  I feel most certainly at that time I would have no doubt gone ahead with surgeries...I was so out of touch with people.  Back then there was no internet and I didn't have support until 6 months later.  It horrifies me to think I probably would have been having surgery for appearances sake.  I guess really you got to perceive a clitoris as something more than something to LOOK at and get beyond the myth that surgery doeas NOT affect the delicate nerves in this area.  I've read stories of adult women who felt THEY should have had the choice.  I fell Danny is most certainly right in leaving it until his daughter reaches her teenage years.  Atleast she will have had sex education then and may decide she will just have a vaginal opening made.  WHO ARE WE to make the decision for them.  I know one think for sure....I would rather have a BIG clitoris than one that has absolutely NO sensation OR worse as in some cases no clitoris at all as I have read in some cases.  I know that if I knew what I KNOW now, I would have left my daughter alone and just brought her up as a girl.  IF she had had urinary problems....I would have possibly had surgery to fix that problem ONLY.  Technology improves all the time, and whatsmore, childhood is such a small part of a persons life.  Don't forget they have the rest of it to thank you if they do not have the joys of a happy sex life.
