Re: DNA to verify a diagnosis

Sandra, Dr. New's office in NY does wonders with DNA testing. Ann Carlson is the genetisist that I used and she found what turned out to be a more rare strain of CAH in my husband (carrier)& my daughter (carrier). My strain is more common and is one of the 7 (?) strains they test for normally. My son presented with my type because it was slightly less severe than my husbands and in the genetic world, the less severe gene wins out. The cost of the DNA testing is about $600 and is well worth it. You can send it through the mail packed in ice so that you don't have to travel all the way to NY. If you have other children, you might want to test them to see if they are carriers of the disorder. This information might come in handy when they decide to have children of their own. If you would like more information or have any questions please feel free to email me. You can get the information on Dr. New on this web site by going to the home page and clicking on people (?). I wish you and your family the best ofluck. If it does turn out that he has CAH, you will be able to find all the information and support you could possibly need from this message board.
