AimeeHello Everyone,
Some of us with CAH can wait to have the surgery and decide for ourselves if surgery is warrented. I think that is wonderful.
Then their are people that are born like I was. We have female chromosomes, ovaries and a uterus. There is nothing male in us or about us. Our bodies lack the ability to make cortisone. Which had an effect on our gentical area. I was born with a fused labia and a enlarged clitoris that I voided out of.
My parents did the surgery for me not for them. They waited until I was five to have to have the surgery done. I was even seen by a Pediatric Psychologist befor the surgery. Of course I could of waited for the surgery but I live in the real world also. Children do compare what they have or they see each other change clothes. As a child, I knew that little girl puppies were " smooth " and little boy puppies were not. Therefore, as a human girl, I should be smooth also.
Having CAH is difficult enough. For me to have waited any longer for surgery would of been paramount to child abuse. No little girl should have to void out of an enlarged clitoris that that looked similair to a penis. It wasn't a penis. I've seen enough of those to judge. It was a soft overgrown clitoris with an opening that I voided out of. Yes, I had a clitorectomy done but that was the best they could due at the time. Leaving me with with the clitoris that I peed out of would of been worse.
Best Regards,
Aimee
