Re: Has anyone qualified for a FAMILY CARE LEAVE based on their child's CAH?

Maureen, It never hurts to look into things. And CAH is serious. CAH can be life threatening if not treated or if the person with CAH needs stress dose or injection. However (you probably guessed that was comming) I personally would not classify CAH as a serious, life-threatening condition such you would qualify to take leave and still obtain health benifits. Most of the kids I have read about on this board and those I have met in person (including my 2 1/2 year old), lead a normal, happy life. I know there are exceptions out there, and I'm not speaking to that. Yes, as parents, we must all take precautions such as making sure care givers and school officials are well educated and can provide any emergency care necessary. And as parents we must all make very hard decisions as to how to handle work, daycare, school, etc. But a CAH child does not need the care that this type of leave is typically for. I am guessing that it would need to be a VERY serious condition. Even with FMLA, which can be taken to help care for a sick child, spouse, or parent, the government does not require the empolyeer to continue paying the health care costs. They are required to allow the employee to cover both the employer and employee costs. Just my 2 cents!
