Re: Constipation

When my son was about 2 years old, he was so constipated that we had to do a "manual extraction" which, as you can imagine, was no fun for either of us. You could see the poop trying to come out, but it was so hard and round (and yellow in color) that we needed to remove it ourselves. We also let him sit in a tub of warm water just about a 1/2 a foot deep. It did finally come out after a whole bunch of tears (on both sides). We feel that it was due to too little fluid on a hot summer's day. He had a couple of those days, but none quite as bad as that. Since then he has always remembered it and keeps himself loaded up with Gatorade, ice water, juice, and anything else he can get his hands on including pickle juice. When a child is a salt waster it is imperitive that we keep them hydrated properly and, as with the solu-cortef shot, you really can't over do it. So, to err on the side of caution is a good way to go with this one. Pops also do a good job and you can freeze just about anything. As far as the diabetes goes, I have noticed that my son seems to have symptoms from time to time of low blood sugar. I contacted our insurance company and they sent me a glucometer free of charge. I tried to push for a blood pressure machine but had no luck - yet! I wish you luck Nicole and keep us posted.
