Ok, I was trying to nurse and type at the same time! Hard to do!!  Carol, I don't think you are crazy for thinking that when growth is no longer an issue a lower dose medication would be better.  I'm not sure for SWCAH if that would be better or not but for simple virilizers I think your idea is pretty good. I'm not sure what kind of CAH your son Nick has.  In my research, some of the articles I've read said that for simple virilizers the treatment is used to prevent premature skeletal  maturation which would occur if left untreated. They don't mention anything about taking medication for life because of a possible crisis. I am still confused about that. I've only been dealing with this disorder for about one month but I have been up many nights reading and trying to find any and all information I can.   I'm glad that there are people like you who think, as you put it, "radically". Just maybe you will move a mountain.  I look forward to learning more about CAH so keep your posts coming. That goes for all the other  people on MB who have helped novices like me.
