Julie HHi Cindy
Sorry if someone has already adressed this but tablets are okay when your child needs that exact dose, i.e. 5mg but from experience splitting them is very innaccurate. I tried them briefly, but blood tests were all over the place so we reverted back to the syrup and things settled down. I am not sure about anywhere else but our hydrocortisone tablets never had a score mark and even though we used a pill cutter, even this was never accurate. They would crumble and almost never break exactly in half. If a pharmacist is willing (and basically they should be - if not try you hospital pharmacy---they often realise the importance in catering to the individual child's needs where these medications are concerned) then I would strongly advise that you move back to the syrup. I would be very surprised if you had a problem getting the syrup made in these circumstances as it is very important to get the correct dosage in these children to see the best growth and management wise. Tablets cannot cater for individual needs and until the manufacturers make them in lower and eve half doses, syrup is the more accurate way to go. My child, even though he could take a tablet, is still on syrup for this exact reason---I feel it is the only way for the time being.
