When you say you want to buy a medic bracelet, will it contain all the information that medics may need in an emergency.  It's just that my child has an official "Medic Alert" bracelet and it has a number to ring medic alert in an emergency to get all his medical details, which sometimes cannot fit onto a small bracelet.  In addition to getting the bracelet you are funding this vital service, and medics can instantly recognise the bracelet as a medic alert bracelet whereas, any other bracelet may be overlooked.  I felt that the cost of an official Medic Alert bracelet was a small price to pay for peace of mind and I know that if my child is with people that are not aware of his condition, that they know from this internationally accepted bracelet and emblem that he needs medical help fast and medics will act appropriately.  Medics can ring through to Medic Alert and get exact details and also hospital staff too.  I only have my childs bracelet etched with his number and "adrenal insufficiency.  In emergency give steroids"  (Due to stranger danger---i.e. possibilty of a stranger gleaning information and a name--which could then be used for other sinister reasons besides the purpose it was designed for) This is because medics will have no clue what CAH is but are alerted to Adrenal Insufficiency (and are far more likely to have been versed in this) and this goes for medical staff at ER as well. Therefore they can act straightaway without delaying the necessary treatment.   The official bracelets can be altered by removing links and are far more durable than any other type too I should imagine.  Your baby could wear it as an anklet if you don't want him/her to have it on the wrist) You can always put the links back in later as they grow.  It is a good investment I believe and a one off if well looked after.  If you find that they do snap (they are designed to do this just incase the kid is playing and gets it caught and therefore only take a certain amount of weight before they snap) you can get a different bracelet for kids but I don't know the exact details of those.  I believe that they are a little more trendy.  Personally I prefer the metal link ones, and if they snap, Medic Alert will supply a replacement chain if you can't fix it yourself or losr some links in the process.
