LisaHello,
I am new to this message board. I have a 15-year-old son with CAH. He has struggled with his weight all his life. I don't know if that is just his metabolism or related to the CAH. His control has always been exceptionally difficult and he is on the highest dose of steroids (Cortef and Dexamethasone) that his doctor has heard of; roughly twice as much as her other CAH patients. He started the Dex approximately a year ago and has gained at least 40 pounds since. He looks very cushingoid to me, yet his control is better on the Dex and his doctor does not want to alter his meds or the doses. I don't know what to do. It is affecting his self-esteem greatly. He is continually hungry, yet eats less than I do. He won't take off his shirt, swim in our pool, and all of the girls have stopped calling. It is very depressing.
We live in South Jersey outside of Philadelphia and I would like a second opinion. Can someone recommend a doctor? I am feeling really desperate at this point.
Thank you,
Lisa
