LisaMy son is 15 years old. He has been on dexamethasone for a little longer than a year. Yes, he is a salt waster. Big time. This is his current regiment:
a.m.: two 10 mg tablets Cortef and two 0.1 mg tablets Florinef p.m.: two 0.5 mg tablets dexamethasone
He was on Lupron and Nutropin for about 3 or 4 years (what kind of mother am I to forget? It may just be something I want to put out of my mind...) and he done growing. He is about 5'7" to 5'8". He is very sensitive about his weight, so I do not exactly know it, but I would guess it to be between 170 to 180 pounds. He was a size 32 waist last year and is probably about a size 36-38 now. It is all in his belly, he has the striae, and his torso looks exactly like the picture for "cushinoid" I saw in a medical textbook.
He has been seeing Dr. New in New York City for the last seven to eight years. His CAH, according to her, is very difficult to control. As a result he is on much higher doses of the Cortef and dex, apparently, than her other patients. Dr. New and her staff are wonderful; however, I really feel like I would like a second opinion and someplace closer to home at this point. My son hates going to NY and I am starting to dread each appointment myself.
If you can be of any help at all, I would appreciate it greatly.
Thank you, Lisa
