CarolHi Julie,
I'm sorry.....I probably wasn't very clear in my post when I talked about "stomping" with the dex. I probably should have clarified that, in the two examples I gave, we didn't do exactly what Laura and her endo did with the HC....which was to ultimately have a smaller increase of meds, by first "stomping" on the adrenals with several days of stress-dosing. The concept of "momentum" has been forefront on my mind the last few days, and the examples I gave were meant only to address the idea of stopping momentum via "stomping"---not meant to suggest that we followed the exact same protocol that Laura and her doctor used.....sorry if I confused you!
The stress-dosing regimen for dex is to give the regular dose twice daily for fever > 101 F; and double-dose, twice daily for fever > 102 F. You're right that since dex is so strong, "stress-dosing" in order to "stomp" would be quite a lot. As I mentioned, our biggest increase at one time ever with dex was 33%---not even close to double---so I doubt that resorting to the magnitude of stress-doses in order to effect a momentum change would ever be necessary with this drug.
Hope this doesn't confuse the issue even more! So much for sounding like an endo.....think I just got myself demoted a couple of notches, huh??? (LOL!!)
P. S. How old is your son Jared?
