Wow! So much has changed since my son has been on the syrup. I am not sure why there has been a recall can anyone tell me? All I can say is when my son was on the syrup all his increases were very slight. Up untill he was about 4 almost 5 he was recieving 71/2 mg.at this time. We had been having trouble getting the syrup and the pharmacy was having trouble. I learned that pharmacys don't work together at all unless affiliated with one another. Then I found out that the trouble was that the one ingredient of making the syrup came from a plant that is only found in the middle east. Alas it was because of the gulf war.So I called a radio talk show and I told them my story and how I was down to my last bottle of syrup and needed more. So many people called in and told me of a pharmacy on the northside that as unusual medicine and to try it. So I did and yes they had about 5 bottles of it and no one else has been using it and they had my pharmacy call over and they transfered the script. Then about three months later I got a call from the endocrine and they said he needed his meds upped and it went from 7 1/2 mg a day to 15mg. a day a huge increase. So being there was still no syrup being made we decided to go to the pill which was good cause it was 1 pill 3 times a day. He was a little hefty not much at that time but then the weight started getting put on and I kept saying that he was recieving to much but the endocrine kept saying no his meds were fine. So now it is 5 , 6 years and only now has he needed an increase and of course he has been doing great he was losing weight actually and finally I thought this was so great he lost 15 pounds and we were trying, but I thought it was because he was growing into his meds and finally the dose was correct for his height and weight then I get this call his meds need upped again. But thank god it was only 2 1/2 mg more a day so now he takes 17 1/2 mg. He is 105 pounds. Just remember every child is different and at every point they may need alot or subtle change in thier meds. They do monitor and check and I know that my endocrine would never under dose or over dose a cah child cause when you do overdose them ou can get all the complications of the effects of the medicine. At one point we were severly over dosed on the florinef also.He was taking 10 pills at one time and over a six month period they finally dropped him to one he was 2 at the time he is now 10 and still on one go figure.Jamey
