KayMy daughter took monthly Lupron injections for 8 years. The only side effect we ever noticed from the shot was redness at the injection that went away pretty quickly (within a day or less). We did notice as she grew and the dose needed to be changed that she would experience cyclical moodiness - much like PMS. I would mention to the Dr. who would run the test and confirm to me that the dose did need to be increased and we would go up to the next higher dosage. We went from 7mg to 11.5 mg to 15mg over the years. She has just stopped taking the shots this summer. The Dr. expects her to resume normal puberty and menstruation should occur within a year. Lupron did stop pubertal development dead in its tracks and helped tremendously with growth/bone age advancement.
The only question we have now about the Lupron is if it could have affected bone density and that test will be performed 10/8. The only reason we are having the test and have any question is that my daughter has broken quite a few bones over the years. It could just be that she is accident prone, which is what I suspect. But, better safe than sorry, so we we do the test just to be sure. I'll keep everyone posted on the results of the density test.
