I just put my 4th grade son on the bus (1st day of school here in RI) and have a question for all. What do your doctors say about the timing of the doses? I know every kid is different and each case will differ, but just wondering about kids who are on cortef 3x day. WHen my son was diagnosed at 17 days old, they told us to give the cortef every 8 hours or as close to it as possible to that and not to be too panicky that we had an hour in each direction for error etc. Of course, we followed it to a tee. When he entered 1 st grade, we questioned whether we should have the school nurse give the afternnoon pill as he wouldn't be getting home until 3:45 (approx. 9-10 hrs. after his am dose) They said not to bother, because he was so well controlled (I don't think he was) that we could wait until he got home, that it would not be a problem. The next year, I mentioned that I was having difficulty rousing him in the late evening for his pm med, because he is such a deep sleeper. ( We would give him his pm pill when we went to bed, approx 11-12:00pm). They once again said, no problem - just give it to him before he goes off to sleep. I said, "Gee, he goes to bed at 8:00, isn't that too early?" They said just give it at the very last minute (in other words, pj's on, teeth brushed, reading done) I said ok. His urine tests always come back great and they still insist that he is their best controlled patient and tell us how lucky we are. So as it stands right now, he will be having his am pill at approx. 7:30- 7:45, his afternoon pill at approx. 3:30-3:45, and his evening pill at approx. 9:00-9:15. So he will go for the 8 hrs. between am and afternoon, but only about 5 1/2 hrs. between the afternoon and the evening and then approx. 10 hours during the night! Now, we go back @ the end of this month, so I certainly plan on going over all of this once again with them, but I 'm just wondering how everyone handles this.Valerie
