We had the same experience. My son is a severe salt waster who has gone into crisis without exhibiting ANY of the "typical" precursors. One of the things that told me he wasn't just being lazy was when my husband was taking a few children on an "adventure walk" in the woods behing our house, my son tried to follow and keep up. He wanted nothing more than to be with all the other children. He sat down and cried that he couldn't do it because his legs hurt him so badly. I had to stay back with him and help him find a way to feel good about himself. He was only 3 or 4 years old at that time. He called them boo-boo legs. He has been using deodorant since he was 4 (he is 6 now) and has pubic hair (which I just noticed last night is very prominant). These symptoms all occured or began when the Liquid was bad. He was extremely thin and gaunt. He also complained of heart/chest pain after walking a short distance. He actually dropped to the ground grasping his chest at one point and said "his heart attacked". He didn't develop the Cushinoid symptoms until they figured out the meds were bad and switched him to the pills. They put him on an extremely high amount to stop the growth and get him under good control quickly. He would also have crying jaggs or times of extreme anxiety. He seems to be doing ok at the moment and I believe his dose is at a good place for him right now. We all know that that can be short lived though. Have you gotten his bone age done recently? How are his OHP levels and all other levels? Does he startle easily or seem to be wary of even the simple things? What does your maternal instinct tell you? Do you feel that he is under good control or do you think he is over or under suppressed? The reason I ask is because I have a sneaking susspicion that just because a child falls in the levels of "normal", it may not be a good place for him. I believe strongly in giving the child salty foods and gatorade type drinks to help him during times of "stress". It is something that has made all the difference in the world for our child. He perks right back up and is ready to go again in no time. He can not endure any long term activities such as running long distances, standing in the sun for long stints or anything that takes a lot of stamina and sweat. He does enjoy swimming, tubing, fishing, horseback riding, baseball, karate, and inventing. I think you need to push your ped endo to scrutinize his levels and LISTEN to your concerns. It is NOT all just about the numbers some times. Anytime a child says they don't feel well I tend to perk up and listen. Follow your instincts.LynnT
