I just read your post about difficulties in getting a pill down in the evening dose when your child is half asleep.  Jared is a deep sleeper too and finds it difficult to get back to sleep after the last dose, especially when we used to make him sit up.  The reason I did this was the first time we gave him a pill in his sleep he too choked and gagged.  Then I realised that he needed to drink something down with the pill.  I was always told to take pills upright not when lying down as this helps them travel down to the stomach properly.  I must admit I have to take pills with a drink because they stick in my throat.  I usually have to take a cup of water with them and therefore presumed that that was what we needed to do for Jared.  I was also always told to take medication just with water not anything else, as sometimes the other stuff can interfere with absorption.  We give Jared a good supper now and he goes to be at 8.30pm and I always assume that when he has his med (as it was then at 10.30pm) that there would be sufficient in his stomach to stop any tummy problems.  He has a glass of milk and a muffin or slice of toast before bed time.  Now he is on syrup, it is more convenient, he hardly notices the meds being given.
