Hello Rochelle,

I hope your daughter is the delight my 18 year old is.She was diagnosed at birth because of genital malformation.I found that particularily difficult to cope with. I gave up my work to stay at home with her so noone would get to change her nappy.Where we live and I worked there are no creches and we rely on someone locally to child mind. When she was well toilet trained I went back to work. She was a great baby, seldom sick and never hospitalised. She had no weight problems then. In fact she was petite.

At about 7 years she began to develop pubic hair, her meds.were increased because her bloods showed an imbalance and she became hungrier. Her weight increased gradually. Today she is 62 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. She is on a diet again but it is hard. She just loves food and cooking.!

Maybe I am lucky but adolescence was no big deal. She developed fairly normally, had no great mood swings, no head-aches, no lethargy,--none of the things I have read about on the sites. Her periods came before her 17th birthday -- a little late --lucky for her!

I will have to admit she was never into girly things. She played with toy cars, trains, farms etc. That worried me a lot. Now she loves football and driving but also jewellery, make-up, boys and going out.

When she was 14 she had vaginal surgery and will soon have clitoral surgery. We left it until she could decide for herself.

I think the worst period for us was when the two children were young. Like you now. There was little information back then.and I worried a lot about their future. Now I realise I shouldn't have. Your little girl will be fine. Correct dosages of meds. at the correct time always, I think, is a must.

Best wishes.

P.S.  We have had twins since, a boy and a girl. They are 10 years and have no CAH.
