There are a lot of good points here Roberta.  I did a lot of things to ensure that I could relax as a parent at home whilst my child is in the care of others.  He has an official medic alert bracelet that tells others what his needs are.  He never takes it off.  Its been on his wrist since we received it.  His teachers were given a booklet and there are pills in the school office if he is sick.  The teachers have a problem giving them and I therefore I asked for the Nurse at the Children's Clinic to visit the school.  She is going to take a kit with Solu cortef in and I believe the Principal has worked in the emergency services and may be able to give a shot in an emergency.  We travel everywhere with kit in the car in case of an accident whilst away from home or if tramping/hiking.  I carry a cell phone everywhere when I leave out home to ensure that I am always available for contact.  The school also have my partners telephone number at work and our home number.  I gave our GP a pamphlet on giving solu cortef shots and he is willing to let us go there in an emergency (2 mins around the corner) if necessary as opposed to the one hour journey to the main hospital after the 20 minutes it takes for an ambulance to arrive---then a delay in a & e if staff don't know how to handle our son. (This does happen!)  In doing all this, I feel that we have done everything that we can in our power to make sure that if anything happens---the best plans are in place.  Some might perceive it as over the top.  Others may perceive it as reasonable.  I just perceive that it is our insurance---and we will reap the rewards  if something untoward happens to Jared whilst we are not around.  I can relax as his parent more knowing that these things have all been taken care of.
