Melanie, I'm sorry I messed up and submitted my response before I finished. I can't tell you how many times I;ve done that. Just call me "fumble fingers"!To continue, I use the ol' famous "scare tactic". I made it sound like i was sure they wouldn't enjoy the feeling of guilt if they didn't handle this correctly! I have found with the many issues I have dealt with over the past 9 yrs. that you have to be pushy. Very pushy. I also told the doctor that we were ready for the solu-cortef. At the next appt. he gave us the prescription and had the nurse teach us how to give it and write the instructions down (My memory is nil when I'm nervous , the 1st time I gave him a shot I still had to call my sister in the middle of the night to guide me, she is a ped RN) I am now very tough, I just don't care what others may think or anything. I figure hes a kid and can't really speak for himself yet and until he reaches the age that he will have to be responsible for himself, I am his voice and as my husband says, "it sure is a big one"! Maybe if your doctor is affiliated with hospital you take your son to he could call them. If not, do what I do. Just turn over a card and tell them this needs immediate attention. Be firm, its the only way. And be a little pushy - it works like a charm!
