Re: My son is having surgery and I am scared to death

Hi Jill-My daughter had surgery at age 2, an 8 hour procedure.  She's also had 4 cystoscopes requiring anasthesia.  She did amazingly well each time (the last one recently at age 5), and each time, our endo consulted with the surgeon and anasthesiologist.  She had an increased dose of Cortef by mouth at bedtime and at midnight.  In the am, she had the Florinef with a little water.  She had the IV with solucortef during the procedures, then a triple dose 8 hours after procedure.  We doubled the dose 2 days, then back to normal.  These doses would obviously change acc to the child's current dose.  Children may cry, be irritable and confused and shaky when first waking up, then they settle down after half an hour or so.  Prayers to you, your husband and son!  I hope all goes well, and you'll probably be amazed at how quick the recovery will be.  Pamela
