Julie HWhilst I am reminded, I wanted to ask people about missed doses and what they are advised to do. This week I missed a dose with my son in the morning and didn't realise until much later. In the past I was advised to give the dose as soon as we remember add if it is too close to the time of the next dose just to give that as normal. Is that what everyone else is advised? It's just that I always feel I should double that next dose---something just tells me that since he has just gone what is technically 16 hours without a dose of cortisol (especially if you don't remember until it's time for the next one---cos your so absorbed with what's live on the tv!) that he needs a boost, rather like the "stomping" idea that Laura K mentions. To my mind it only seems like common sense as it seems to me that this is exactly what a normal set of adrenals would do in the circumstances, especially if cortisol levels have plummeted to low levels for some reason or another i.e. shock. I guess even normal folks adrenal glands do that from time to time before the old ACTH kicks in and starts demanding some more cortisol. Why are we told just to give the next dose normally or that they don't need a double dose then to compensate for the missed one? Seems silly to expect the next single one to rectify the problem surely? Just a thought there, and wondered if anyone has ever thought the same thing!
