robertaThere is so much conflicting information about CAH. Most doctors think that emotional stress does not require additional steriods but only physcial stress such as a illness, surgery, injury. If the child is older... ask them how they feel ... during illness or emotional stress. Does he feel dizzy, weak, sleepy, back ache, stomach pain, faint, low blood pressure or low salt or sugar in the blood? Weight loss? Dark circles under the eyes; or darken skin? How is the growth charts looking? These are signs the CAH is not being managed right or adrenal crisis is likely to happen if the CAH is not brought under control soon.
But you do need to get clarification .... how to treat CAH. The state health department in Texas should help you and the court understand and treat CAH.
Even if you do not have visitation rights. As a father don't you want the proper treatment???? I would think that you could go back to court and insist on proper treatment and clarification.
As physical stress.... hitting a child (with or with CAH) is not a good thing,,,, forcing them to exercise too much.... again not a good thing.... again with or without CAH.
I never heard of "nerve damage" from giving an IM (in the muscle) injection. But believe me - every parent of a CAH had better not be afraid to give the injection during a high fever, serious injury, or illness (vomiting, diahrea, fever) . I sadly know because my 2 year daughter is dead from an adrenal crisis. The endo on call said to just double the cortef and stop calling when she had a fever.... in the morning she was in shock and died after two days on a respirator. I should have given the injection and the sooner the better. She spoke to me at 3am and thought she needed sleep. At 8am... I checked on her and she was in a coma and breathing hard and fast (death pant). If that is the fast breathing the doctor is wanring you about... it is too late then. I should have given the solu-cortef early. And then every 6 hours for 48 hours... and taken her to the ER after I gave the injection. So many parents of children that are gone from adrenal crisis... say should have!! Do not let that happen to you!!
