Re: Grown out of CAH???

I'd have a tendency to disagree with the doctor.  As far as I knew there are different types but that they are incurable---you cannot fix an impairment that exists in the process of producing cortisol---even in a mid case of CAH.  That would be like saying that my son (with sever swcah)could one day be less affected than he is now.  Hogwash.  Either you didn't have CAH when you were a child and the tests that they did were not correct OR you have and it has been so mild that it hasn't affected you that much until now.  My brother died when he was 14 yrs old of peritonitis.  This happened because he couldn't stop vomiting and he ruptured an ulcer on his stomach.  When I think back to that time (I was 15 at the time) I do remember him showing all the signs of an adrenal crisis.  When my sons cah was diagnosed, our doctors asked us about past family members and when we told him of my brother his ears pricked up.  I had had gastro enteritis the week before him and I recovered within 24 hours.  He did not.  He had problems all his life from the age of one and my Mother was sent home with tablets to give him and never knew why she was giving him or what the pills were.  Just that it would affect his growth if they were stopped. She stopped them when he was about seven years old and he was always sickly.  Now I think back I wonder if it was a very mild case of CAH.  After reading that different types can occur in the same family I wonder about this.

I guess even if you did have it, it may not necessarily present itself in the same way as your brother's type.  My x-partner recently contacted me and asked if he could possibly be a sufferer rather than a carrier as he has suffered bouts of severe anxiety all his life on and off.  I guess you cannot disclude the fact that a sufferer and a carrier could conceive any number of combinations of CAH varying from the mildest to the most severe strains.
