Re: Re: CARRIERS EXHIBITTING SYMPTOMS OF CAH - correction

It was my understanding that where the genetics of this condtion are concerned that if you are a carrier you exhibit NO symptoms whatsoever---just as if you are not.  There are three categories here:

Non- carrier ---- non sufferer, and no possibility of passing on the recessive gene.

Carrier------- non-sufferer but the possibility to pass on the recessive gene to your off spring.

Sufferer--- with physical symptoms and also a chance to pass on the gene.  Depending on if your partner carries the same strain or a different strain---any number of combinations could possibly apply to your off spring.   Your off spring could suffere CAH more severely as your partner may "carry" have a severe strain and you may "suffer" a very mild strain.  In genetics a carrier is someone who is totally physically unaffected by the condtion but carries the gene within their make-up.

In life we all suffer stress and many people because of other hereditary factors deal with it differently to others.  Sometimes the symptoms can mimic mild no virilizing CAH, but it is important to understand here that:

Stress in itself causes cortisol levels to rise and like I have posted an example of how that happens--- it is a basic human response to fear and anxiety that causes this.  Stress over a long period of time therefore for a non usferer can be quite detrimental and make anxiety and depression worse.  It is like a viscious cycle.  Fear creatres fear.  Heard the saying there is nothing to fear but fear itself.  Well this is what it refers to.  It does not mean that as a carrier you are producing less cortisol.  To do that you "must" be a sufferer not a carrier.  However mild the condition it IS CAH and would therefore need to be treated, whereas a carrier does not need such.  :-)
