Kaye, Surgery in no way prevents psychological damage. ALL girls virilized by CAH and their parents need psychological counciling. Parents who believe that surgery prevents psychological damage are wrong. I know because I've been there. Therapy for the family and doctors is a far better response to the birth of a child with ambiguous genitalia than allowing personal fears and prejudices to drive a decision to perform surgery that is not only medically unnecessary but also carries a risk of causing lasting physical and emotional damage to the patient.
