My children have the salt wasting CAH. I had to add salt to one that I bottle fed and give salt water solution to the breast fed baby until they were eating solid foods that were salty or salted - at one year. Very worrisome because sometimes they would drink too much and not want to eat all their food as a toddler.

Then the one I decided to breast feed. Well... he did terrible with that because the doctor did not prescribe enough salt. Not only was the plasma renin elevated but so was the 17-OHP. And he was not gaining weight. He had dark circles under his eyes and he would sleep too much.  VERY THIN... maybe 19 pounds at 9 months!!! And the sodium levels were fine but not the only blood tests!! Yet he wasn't getting and retaining enough salt... the 17-OHP was too high also.

The ped endo increased to florinef (1 pill in the morning and 1 at night  - I think)and this was going on for months. Finally at 9 months ... I decided that I needed to do something. I called Dr. Maria New office and was going to fly up to New York. But she called my ped endo and they put him in a hospital locally for a week and the sodium IV and then the extra salt in the diet worked gradually. I was so scared!!

He takes only 1 pill (0.1 mg) in the morning now. He is 3 years old. And 5mg cortef; 2.5 mg cortef and 2.5 mg cortef.
