There are a number of studies about the growth-stunting effects of inhaled steroids on asthmatic children, so I do think that their chronic use would be a legitimate concern for our CAH children. Nicholas is not really asthmatic, but does have issues with reactive airways and allergies. The albuterol inhaler that he sometimes has to use, I believe, is not steroid based, though his prescription nose spray is. I guess I feel comfortable with the fact that he uses this medication only sporadically, so feel that he should not suffer any negative repercussions from it. If your son is chronically on another steroid medication, however, I think I would definitely ask his doctor about the potential effects on his system.
