Julie:

The clitorectomy and 1st vaginoplasty was done when I was five. The clitorectomy was not a medical misadventure or a mishap. No procedure went wrong. I was either going to have a clitorectomy or a reduction but based on the "plumbing" of my urinary tract they performed the clitorectomy.

The second surgery when I was 21 was done so I could have sexual intercourse. I'm sorry but I didn't need any counseling for that one. There was a good looking boy friend that I wanted to enjoy to the best that I could.  One of the last things that my Australian surgeon told me in his cool accent was " Don't go wild.....Now ! "

In both of my surgeries, I never had any dialation or any rod's put in for stretching etc.The only stuff that I have ever had in there was gauze to stop any bleeding. After the sugery when I was 21, the doctor did tell me that I would have no problem with a penis size because he had put his to fingers in there to make sure my vagina was large enough.

The ideas you stated in your post about counseling are wonderful. In my case I never had a problem talking to my parents about any intomate detail even when I was older. CAH is something that was just there and we were not afraid to talk about it. They always tried to understand. I can imagine that a lot of women have problems talking with their parents about CAH. I'm all for counseling. Through the years, the subject of going to counseling was always brought up by the doctors that I saw.

Sincerely,

Aimee
