AdinaHCarol,
Thanks for writing. Yes, my daughter did have some virilization. She had an enlarged clitoris (which is much much smaller since she's been on hydrocortizone suspention). It was as big as a pencil eraser at birth. Her labia are partially fused. They tested her at 1 day and then her endocrinologist at Phoenix Children's hospital tested her on the 12th or the 13th of September again because the first results were dragging getting back (including the chromasome results) as a result of the planes being grounded during that time. On the 19th it was confirmed SWCAH. My son was tested separately by someone else on the pediatric endo. team for Phoenix Children's Hospital. He had one or two small thin pubic hairs, an enlarged penis, and hyperpigmentation, as well as tall height for his age (3). I wish they could've made the testing easier for him. I thought I heard of a test that they did with a swab in the cheek on the internet... have you heard of that one? Is it not as common because it's not as reliable? They took four huge vials of blood and he (being only three) was petrified. They also did xrays on him. His bones had aged to a six year old. My daughter is on a syrup (liquid hydrocortizone) that our pharmacy flavors with bubblegum flavoring. Our son has to swallow the pills though. Anyone else have children this young that they won't write a scrip for a child that young?
Thank you again,
Adina
