Julie HWell you have me there Aimee! Dunno, not a doctor and I just assumed that 'predinisolone' and 'prednisone' were just two different names for the same thing---lol. But I guess my point here is, that the more potent that the medicine becomes, the more importance in titrating the dose. This is common sense to me, because if you are a gram out with HCT it may be no big deal (though personally I feel it is to me---especially when doctors are trying to control things and saying he is hard to control, when in my opinion crudely splitting tablets is nothing like control) but if you are the same size of tablet out for prednisolone or predisone or dexamethasone or betamethsaone each particle of tablet in each of those carries more dosage. Wait a minute , I'll explain a little better here:
When you split a tablet you may not get the exact quarter or half. You may discard what does not look like a quarter of half but the fact remains that that quarter or half is not exact from one split to the next. So you get a crumb out I hear everyone say? Well, a crumb of HCT is not as much of a big deal as a crumb of say pred or dex. The same size crumb is still different. So he or she will get the rest another day or later I hear you say? Well yes, maybe 6 to 12 or 24 hours later. What if that crumb less caused some androgen to break through? Do we want that? What if we give that before the day of a blood test? Would it be as accurate as you need to be? I could theorize forever on this, but I think really, it is down to accuracy. So that you can go 'from' and accurate point 'to' an accurate point when you are altering doses around blood tests results and all the other factors that they consider when analyzing them.
