I don't inderstand why persons w/CAH are referred to as "intersexed" or the disorder as the interesex disease (not sure of the correct wording I've read about). Anyhow, I am the new mother of a CAH baby girl and my elementary understanding of the disease is that it has nothing to do with the X & Y chromosomes (I could be wrong as I am not very well versed in genetics). Is it not the child's genetic make-up that determines whether they are male or female or does the fact that they have CAH have some impact on that. Just seems to me that just because a child's genitals (particularly our little girls) don't look exactly the way most children's do shpouldn't determine whether or not they are "inter-sexed" or whatever the other word is (hermaphradite, etc.). I thought it was the actual combination of X Y chromosomes that ultimately determines a child's sex. Can anyone shed some light on this issue.ConcernedMom
