You may get a little break through Dhea and androgen production but whether that is helpful or not is another question because it has be found that Dhea production follows the same rhythm as HC secretion.  The finding that Dhea is increased along with HC during initial infection of any kind interesting.

I have not got any further with the Dhea from the endo's view point but am setting a process in motion.  We have a special ed team about to do the whole spectrum of tests(speech, cognition etc) at school because he definetely has short term memory and comprehension problems which need a well thought out strategy.  Once the tests are complete my pediatritian will do a blood test to check his Dhea levels and we will start from there.  With the test results being a standardised test I feel we can use it as a base for monitoring any improvements that may occur.  I certainly do not think Dhea will solve the problem completely because Liam's medical background is so complex that it is just as likely that his learning difficulties are a left over from his epilespy days.  I seem to remember reading somewhere that lack of oxygen for short periods can cause autistism of various degrees so there are many other variables other than Dhea.

I am not just interested in the pyschological benefits Dhea may have but the physiological role in development is being more understood.  I am not willing to wait around for clinical studies to prove its benefits for CAHypoplasia children because that will never happen.  The condition is just to rare so it is not a hot research area.
