The problem with recall done by FDA it was really a problem in 1998 and it took until 2000 for them to come out with the letter. HMMM!!!
My child was born in 1998 and the liquid cortef was not working. I switched to pill and because I did not trust the homemade stuff. Like you said... it does not work as effectively as it gets old. He takes the 5 mg pill and it is easy to divide into two piece because it has a pre-cut line on it. And the the 2.5 or half pill is not that hard to cut into half or a 1/4 pill. The 10 mg pill would be hard to cut up that small but not the 5 mg pill.
Anyway... without enough cortef... he was lossing weight and looked terrible. I am sure that he felt terrible. And also think of the growth and other physcial issue. I thought he was going to die!!! It was very scary!!! I would never trust the liquid.
And I would not stay on the liquid for more than a year. It is just not worth risking the child's health and growth. Thing of the brain too.. without enough cortef.. the brain swells...low blood pressure... and death. Not a good thing.Trust your doctor - no way!!
