Re: dex therapy

My experiences were similar to Becki's - lots of the same annoying side effects (acne, facial hair, excess weight gain), but I did not have any pain in my legs or hips. I did end up having to take the dex all the way through my pregnancy since my daughter, who is now 4, does have CAH. In the last trimester of my pregnancy my immune system was compromised considerably (which I guess it not unheard of because of the large doses of steriods), and I caught every infection, cold, etc. that came around and couldn't seem to shake them. I ended up with a massive inner ear infection that required a specialists' care, lasted until my daughter was 4 months old, and left me with some permanent damage to one ear. It was awful. HOWEVER!... my beautiful daughter has absolutely no abnormalites in her genitals or urinary tract, and will not require surgery AT ALL; there is also the whole contraversial theory of the "masculinization of the fetal brain", which I won't get into, but I'm sure you can find lots of info here or on the internet if you'd like to read what it's all about. Was it worth it? YES!!!! I'd do it again in a moment to spare my daughter the surgeries (and who knows what else), even though it was a very long 9 months! Ultimately, it's a very personal decision - the effects of NOT taking it could last a lifetime for your daughter; the effects of TAKING it could last a long time for YOU (especially if you take extra weight off as slowly as I do!). God's blessings on your decision, and upcoming (hopefully!) pregnancy!
