Re: Prof. Brooks

Hi Sandra,

I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING first-hand about Prof. Brooks---just recognized his name as having been the one associated with two different cases of "mis-diagnosis"  that I'd heard of.  Knowing that you are also somewhat wondering the same about your son, I was just curious why his name keeps cropping up everytime this comes up.

I use quotation marks around "mis-diagnosis" only because I am not at all certain that that was the final outcome in both of these situations.  The first involved a parent who made a brief appearance on this board about a year ago, to say his son had been found not to have CAH by Prof. Brooks.   It was unclear how the boy had been diagnosed with CAH, to begin with, and what tests were run to misprove the original diagnosis.  The second involved another child,  who was thought not to have CAH at one point, but apparently is decided to have it, after all.  I do not know what part Prof. Brooks played in this flip-flop-flip scenario, but, apparently, he was one of the physicians involved in this boy's care.

My ears pricked up, of course, when you mentioned his name in your email (Geez....maybe in a previous life, I was Agnes Crabbits, Samantha Stevens' nosy neighbor!).  Just that---to me---it all has to do with running the right tests and being able to piece together the evidence convincingly.  So if Prof. Brooks has somehow made a specialty out of cases of misdiagnosis, I am not certain why he would have a leg up over any other good endo, who knows what to look for.  Again, this is just what I'm reading into the situations here.  As I said, I really know NO facts about either of these two other cases....EVERYTHING is hearsay!
