I totally agree.  It's the perception.  The condition could just as easily be referred to as "extraordinary genitalia."  A term such as this could be construed as "gifted" by the same people that would see "intersexed" as freakish.  I think if we wish for a certain term to be used, we ought to pick one with a positive connotation.
