AimeeI've corresponded with some other women who seem to be less virilized than I am. They being born an enlarged clitoris and me being born with something on its way to being a penis ( I was born with no male testes and only female chromosomes, I have my medical records.) My only problem was not being born with cortisone which allowed the excess androgens to work magic on my clitoris.
In talking to people that prefer to call themselves the "others" or intersexed. They seem to talk about being intersexed like someone would talk about being a heterosexual, which is fine with me if they feel like that. I feel that intersexed is a medical term to include all types of sexual based birth defects. Not all people with CAH would identify with calling ourselves "others." We are no different than your typical female.
It is my guess that somehow in utero, I had all the virilization ( adrogens ) directed at my gentical area and yet not alot of androgens directed at my brain.Whereas the ones that feel that they are an intersexed person got a more evenly dispersed " wash " of androgens in their brain and gentical area or maybe they could have also received a larger dose of androgens in the brain and also another larger dose in their gentical area. This is all just an idea.
I never was a good "tomboy." I was and am horrible at sports.Practice did not make it better. I only like to watch baseball because I think the players are cute. Come on...Y'all think the MET'S catcher Mike Piazza is cute! I never excelled in math. College Algerbra and statistics were a nightmare. Since I was around 13, I've always enjoyed make-up and lipstick. I never minded dresses for parties but still always a t-shirt and jeans type of girl. I enjoy wearing miniskirts and v - neck tops at least once a week as an outfit of choice. My hair preferance is shoulder length. Also, I like nail polish. People with CAH are really not all the same but yet those tv shows only see us a certain way.
Sincerely,
Aimee
