What is this debate about anymore???

It is a fact that the term intersex is hurtful to some people.  Besides the fact that it is an inaccurate term, as Danny has clearly expressed.  Why not just show the compassion, and use the term around those comfortable with it.  Pebbles, you seem to think that I am arguing that we should just ignore the aspect of ambiguous genitalia.  I am all for  becoming more educated about it.  Can we do this in a way that is informative, accurate and supportive?  I think so.  Can we do it without using the term intersexed?  I think so.  I think parents should be informed, that surgery as an infant is only an option, not something they should feel pressured into doing.  I think they should be given the pros and the cons without being told they are a terrible person for the decision they make.  I think they should also be told that surgery can be delayed until the child is old enough to make their own informed decision.  Whatever decision they make, I will not judge them, I will listen to them, and offer them the support and respect that they so deserve.  It is only a word.  But words have the power to hurt.
