Davida:

My daughter was diagnosed at age 16. Her symptoms were facial hair, no periods, very tired all the time, and headaches. She has been on 0.375 mg dexamethasone since her diagnosis. It helped somewhat in regulating her periods, but her facial hair was the same. The doctor then put her on birth control pills for her period. The extra estrogen in the bcp did help somewhat with her facial hair, but she started to gain a bit of weight. She is now on dex, bcp and spironolactone. The last med really helped with her facial and body hair. She struggles with her weight. She has been trying the weight watchers program, and it seems to be working for her as long as she exercises. She still gets headaches if she is under stress from school work. Sometimes she needs extra meds especially during finals week when she pulls all nighters. But all in all the meds have made her feel much better. One thing she discovered is that she can't skip meals, and she should eat smaller meals more ofthen. If she skips a meal she gets very light headed and fells as if she's going to pass out. She never lost any hair on her head, but I would think that along with helping get rid of facial hair the meds would help with thinning hair which is also related to too much androgen. The meds did clear up her mild acne.

I hope my rambling helped. With the proper meds regulating your hromone levels you should be feeling better. Good luck.
