Re: Just had a quote for Hydrcortisone Suspension...

Sorry, that $6 that I normally pay is actually three monthly (90 days supply of tablets) not weekly. the suspension I quote is $17.05 weekly. The benefit I claim to recoup the costs for travel to and from hospital, seeing doctors (GP) and the meds etc is Disability Allowance but it is income tested. Because the med is not subsidized, it has this excess on it I presume. Up until last year I am presuming that they just had liquid cortef subsidized and that when that was withdrawn they did not deal with the matter of suspension for babies immediately. Had the med been subsidized, then it would not need to be registered with PHARMAC for subsidization again would it? I presume that once they pay the $11'000 to register a drug with PHARMAC and it's passed, that the $11'000 was a one off and the drug remains subsidized unless someone pulls it off the market as upjohn did the liquid cortef. that is why I am surmising that the "Pharmacy Made" suspension has never been subsidized in NZ. Just thought that I would post that here for other NZ people. Question: Is Lupron the only drug that they use to stop Central Precocious Puberty, and if not what are the others and how long have they been used? I would like to see if any others are subsidized here in NZ in relation to that too. Thanks
