Sounds sensible, but I have not heard of anyone doing this yet. What I did want to say was that although we have the heel prick here, that it does not take place until the 5th day. Of all my three babies after, none were done BEFORE that day. It then took seven days for the results to come back. In some cases of severe salt wasting CAH, I felt that that could be too late for some kids and that they could become sick. I had all the three babies tested after Ash. Ash was in adrenal crisis on the 12th day and also he was very sick before this in not taking fluids. I feel that these tests need to be done in the birthing room immediately after birth and sent away for analysis here in NZ. I have said that for a while now to numerous people in our Support Group. One child here in the Manawatu was picked up last year, but how many are missed and written off as cot deaths? Like you say, these families are unsuspecting that they carry the CAH gene when that happens and so no one is aware of how they can be helped---even with pre natal testing. Regards ValVal
