KateHi everyone. I just thought I'd approach the Board for some advice / help...
Our 2 1/2 yo son's BP is high, and I was wondering what others' experiences might be?
Things get complicated (as they do with CAH!)... he's been undersuppressed recently, but improved with extra hydrocortisone. He seems sensitive to the Florinef (we've had to progressively reduce his dose - now on 1/4 of 0.1mg tab morning and night - to be reduced to 1/4 at night only from today); his Renin levels are OK (higher normal range), but his BP is 135/85 (down from 150/110 (!!!) when he was on a higher dose of Florinef earlier this year). It's tricky 'cause as I see it too much hydrocortisone could increase the BP (but I want to increase that because he has definitely been undersuppressed), as could too much Florinef. Because I think he's not been getting enough of the former recently, I agree with his specialist that too much of the latter has caused the BP issues (unless something else is doing it)... And of course, to put the icing on the cake, too little Florinef will make him undersuppressed as well...
We are going to try and get some European Florinef (can only get 0.1mg tabs as lowest dose here), will do renal ultrasounds and EUCs to exclude other renal-type causes of the hypertension, reduce his Florinef now, and wait and see I guess.
I suppose I'm worried about the long term effects (he's been hypertensive for months and months now), and wondered what others' have experienced / learnt... Does anyone know of any "long-term" studies in this area (realising of course the small time-frame in which CAH has been treated now)?
Anything you have to say / any past dealings with H/T and CAH etc would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance,
Kate.
